Sad news :(
Those of you who know me, know that I am in school right now to be a nurse practitioner. Doubtless you have heard me talk about my clinical rotations. This semester I have been doing a pediatrics rotation up in Frederick, MD. My preceptor Trish has been great, she's great with patients and she's a wonderful teacher. I have learned so much from her in just the six shorts weeks I have been there. Since I started in the beginning of June she has been having problems with a "bump" on her right thigh which she was convinced was the result of injury to her leg while spending the whole day gardening and lifting heavy pots one weekend. Well it turns out that it is actually cancer. I don't know for sure, but I think it is liposarcoma. She just found out today and needless to say she is devastated. She is only 50 years old and has two kids in their early 20s. She will go tomorrow for an MRI to see whether there are any metastases in other areas of her body. Then they will decided whether to do just radiation or radiation and chemo. I am deeply saddened by this whole turn of events. She is the nicest person and she doesn't deserve to have something like this happen to her. (Of course who does deserve to have cancer, but still.) Anyway, I ask all of you to please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and to send as much positive energy her way as you possibly can!
