Sveriges Radio

I have been listening to Swedish radio recently. Because my mom is Swedish, I can read/write/speak/understand Swedish. There isn't anything particularly different or exciting about Swedish radio, I just like being able to listen to the spoken Swedish word. It sounds so nice to me. I am also hoping that listening the Swedish radio programs will help increase my Swedish vocabulary. If you would like to check it out, see the Sveriges Radio link in my links section.

I have a sister who is a nurse in Virginia- although she is down in VA Beach.

a quick question, because I have a big interest in languages. How close is Swedish to Norwegian and Danish ? I know they are all pretty close, but is it close enough that it presents no difficulties or do you have to listen closely to understand ?

Generally I have found that it is much easier for me to understand Norwegian. But even with Norwegian, it depends a lot on the area of the country they are from and whether they speak in a dialect.

Also, even within Sweden, there are dialects that make people different to understand. I looked up Swedish on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_language) and they had a very interesting sampling of dialects. Some of the recordings I really couldn't understand unless I read the accompanying text.
